The Lunar Olympics

If we held the World Olympics on the moon in an air tight dome, all of the great world's records would be easily broken. The moon has a gravity of one-sixth that of the earth. Therefore, an athlete would weigh one-sixth of his earthly weight. Theoretically, one could multiply the world's records by six to get an estimate of how different competing on the moon would be from on earth. An athlete's endurance would be greater since the change in gravity would make it easier to run or hop. A pole-vaulter would not only be able to jump higher, but he or she would also appear to be falling in slow motion because there is one-sixth less pull downward on him.

When it comes to Olympic events that involve the use of an object, the object would weigh one-sixth of its natural weight. The shot-put or the javelin would soar through the air for far longer distances since gravity would not pull it down to the moon as quickly as on this planet.

There would be one draw back which relates to traction. Because there is less gravitational pull, a loss of traction would hinder such events involving running (i.e. -- hop, skip, and jump), or racing (i.e. -- bicycle races). The athlete and/or vehicle, not having as much downward pull, would at times appear to be glancing off the competitive surface. Without question, "Lunar Olympics" would produce far different results, would require the development of a number of unique abilities, and in many ways would look comical. Lunar Olympic games would truly be out of this world!

In light of what we know about and have experienced concerning the moon's gravity, totally different laws operate there than here. Therefore, it ought to be no surprise that the God of all laws, the physical laws that operate in this world, or the many different laws that operate across the universe, can do anything! Have you heard people, and even ministers, deny the existence or possibility of miracles? The God of this world is not limited by any natural laws that control and/or operate in this world, or in a thousand other worlds.

Men who can jump and bounce across the surface of the moon with little effort are not performing miracles. They are not contravening the natural laws of moon science. Yes, such activity would indeed be supernatural and would take a miracle on this planet because moon laws do not operate on this earth. The difference between "Lunar Olympics" and "Earth Olympics" is due solely to the fact that the laws that operate on the planet earth do not operate on the surface of the moon. Why would the God of this world, and of all worlds, not be able to do anything, anything at all in this world or our lives? If He established the laws that operate on the moon, as well as on planet earth, and He did, then nothing is impossible with Him -- absolutely nothing!

God can do the miraculous because the supernatural, which to us is indeed the truly miraculous -- the overriding of this world's natural laws, is not at all miraculous to Him. God can work out any problem, meet any need, or do what we know to be impossible in this world! Don't ever hesitate to ask God to do the insurmountable or impossible!

Isaiah says it this way, "Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching of his understanding. He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. (Isaiah 40:28-31)." God can give us supernatural strength to face, to endure, to excel in any contest we face in life!
